For those members who own a car in the 50s to the 70s, the Nike Missile Site is having a festival on Saturday January 18th from 10 am – 5 pm. This is a free show that is looking to showcase the cars that those soldiers who worked and lived out on this base would have driven.
From stories we’ve heard, these men used an area on site to hot rod their cars and they used to race down the very straight isolated police free roads that lead to the base.
The show includes the chance to win one of 3 monetary awards (1st place $300, 2nd place $200, and 3rd place $100). The entrance also includes free entry into Everglades National Park!
SSP has also been told that next year this event will also include newer cars that will be allowed to display and hang out around the perimeter road of the base. The day includes tours and demonstrations, bands, etc.
