SSP Headin fer da Hills trip took us from Miami to Savannah to Pigeon Forge to Chattanooga to Tifton. Originally the trip was headed to the Outer Banks but Hurricane Florence changed our plans. Day one took us from an early morning in Miami to a night out in Savannah.
Day 2 took us from Savannah through Landrum SC where we stopped for a racist lunch, onto our cabin in Pigeon Forge TN.
First morning in cabin and was a lazy day, hanging out, hitting a car wash and the Floyd Garretts Muscle Car Museum in town. We then went on to VIP display parking at the Hatfield and McCoy Dinner show.
This morning started with a beautiful sunrise, that I probably overposted pics of, but whatever…We headed out for a ride up Clingmans Dome, then down the Blueridge Parkway and over to the town of Waynesville for a good lunch. We then headed back over the mountains towards Gatlinburg where we encountered a herd of Elk. Dinner was at a BBQ joint where the Maverick blew out a power steering hose…setting up our task for the next day.
Day 5 started with me sleeping in by accident and the guys starting to work on the car. After being woken by the beast, I joined the group and we got the car fixed and working. Took the better part of the day so everyone else just enjoyed the cabin. We ran over to an ATV park late afternoon for a fun trail ride, followed by showers and dinner to only be greeted by Hurricane Michael. 3 years in a row some sort of tropical storm has followed us out of Miami.
Day 6 started out with winds from Hurricane Michael. The group went in to Gatlinburg for an early lunch and shopping, to return to the cars with beautiful skies and low 70 degree temps. We ran out to the Sinks along Little River Road. Dinner that night was cooked by our resident Fire Fighter and was fantastic! We packed up to be ready to depart for the Dragon early the next morning…
Friday had us checking out of the cabin early and heading down Wears Valley Road. We picked up the Foothills Parkway and ended at the TN side of the Dragon. We headed over the Dragon and parked at the store, where a group went back up one more time. The GTO lost her ticket virginity with a certain someone getting a ticket in it. The officer was nice though and ticket minimal. We then traveled on over the Cherohala Skyway and in to lunch in Madisonville. We then went to the Lost Sea Adventure and on to dinner and the hotel in Chattanooga.
Saturday morning we woke in Chattanooga and took a quick drive up Lookout Mountain to visit Rock City Gardens. After walking around there we drive a few country roads to Lafayette Ga where we had a fantastic meal out on the patio with a wood fire at The Station House. We then traveled 4 hours to Tifton Ga for dinner and a well deserved nights sleep.
Last day of our journey we drove straight home…was a long one but well worth it!
